Bakit Madilim ang Kalangitan sa Pagsapit ng Gabi

Isipin mo ha~ kung ang kalawakan ay walang hanggan at ang mga bituin ay nagkalat sa bawat dako ng unibers, nararapat lamang na maliwanag ang kalangitan sa tuwing sasapit ang tagdilim.  Yung tipong magmumukhang binudburan ng diyamante ang langit na may pagkakaiba sa liwanag ng tanghaling tapat.  (Teka, tinatagalog ko yung sinusulat ko at di pa tapos. Wag OA. Mehehe.)

If the universe is infinite and the stars are just scattered everywhere the cosmos, then the luminous matter around the space and the universe should completely light up the dark sky of the night. It should have been like the morning sky but with hues differentiation of luminosity and sparks and spots. Moreover, light should have enough time to reach our planet considering the age of the Earth, of the Stars around us, and of the Universe.

If the universe is too old and the stars live up to millions of years and light travels at the speed humans can’t comprehend, then the photons lurking the universe should have reached our galaxy right from this very moment. And for that matter, we should have been enjoying the vast Christmas light offered by plasmas of each celestial being a couple of light years away from us.

And there should have been no dark night sky. Tonight should be a different one because I believe otherwise.

  4. ok, i seriously believe that what you wrote is epistaxis-inducing.

    as to your question, might it be that the stars are no match to the vastness of the heavens, or else they’re situated too high up to cast light on the earth, which might very well explain why we still have dark nights. but then, i was never good in science. in fact, it’s one of my waterloos, along with history, so I am not the right person to try and attempt to answer your profound question.

      After reading much about this, scientist said that they won’t argue about the vastness of the universe but they would argue about ‘the’ blockage of light reaching our planet. The orbiting of the earth and the expanding of our galaxy adds to the complexity of light travel (in lieu of viewing it from our sky).

      Also, our galaxy had made a big burst of light after the Big Bang but the faster something (which is light) is travelling from us, the more redshifted it is.

    Sabi nga ni Mr. Olbers, ang kinang ng isang bituin ay unti-unting nawawala habang naglalakbay ito sa kalawakan, at napuputol ang liwanag nito sa ibang mga bituin na nagbibigay rin ng liwanag, at nakikilakbay. tama ba?

    At binigyan ang bawat tao ng isang pagkakataon na mamalas natin ang liwanag ng munting bituin sa kalagitnaan ng gabi, dahilan sa ito’y nagbibigay ng kahulugan na kahit gaano kaliit ang iyong ginagawa, ito ay magbibigay ng liwanag na hindi mananakaw ninuman. Binigyan tayo ng karimlan ng langit para mapokus ang ating mga mata sa ningning ng bituin, at makanakaw ng saglit para humiling…

    1. I like what you have said on your third paragraph. Hindi nga naman maiaalis sa isang bituin ang liwanag na kaya niyang ibigay. Kahit patayin ang ilaw, kahit ilibing sa lupa, kahit ikulong sa kweba, hindi mananakaw ang liwanag nito. ;] lab, lab, lab!
